I bought this book because the garden showcases on birds and blooms magazine, southern living, and country gardens are my favorite parts of the magazines and because I used to live in Georgia and I miss it terribly. Although I will admit, the photos in this book are gorgeous, it left me cold. For one thing, every garden included is more like an "estate" garden instead of a "home" garden and every one was a completely formal look instead of a mix. The gardens were so homogeneous that if you weren't paying attention you can easily miss where one garden ends and another begins.Also, one of the things I like most in reading about a gardener's story is the personal feel that the gardener is showing me around the garden. I like the quotes about the the successes and failures of a labor of love. With these gardens, you get the feel that owners hired landscapers to make them the grandest possible garden to keep up with the Joneses. There's no love, no joy, no enthusiasm, no personal connection. This is going back.
